I looked up and he was kneeling on one knee. Oh my God.
“I’m not the boy you used to know. But my feelings for you have never changed. I’ve always been in love with you. Always. And I’ll never stop loving you. You’re my whole world, Summer. I’m not me without you.”
“Miles.” My heart was so full it felt like bursting.
“I talked to your dad after dinner. He gave me his blessing. And I didn’t want to wait another second to ask you. We’ve been apart for so long. And we were never meant to be apart. We’ve always been written in the stars. Marry me, Summer.”
“Yes! A million times yes!” I threw my arms around him and he caught me. He was always there to catch me.
He was right about everything. We weren’t kids anymore. We had been through so much. There was a darkness in me that was forged in flames. His darkness was carved in ice. But I was wrong before. I didn’t burn because of it. And he didn’t freeze. Neither one of us broke. Our love for each other made us strong enough to see the light again. Strong enough to hope. To dream. A Note From Ivy
When I first started thinking about Summer’s story, it was going to be a light-hearted superhero novel. But as I fell in love with these characters it became so much more. My husband always jokes around with me about how I turn all my stories so dark. (Also…when I started this series he wasn’t my husband yet. So how cool is that?!) But I don’t think happily ever afters are quite as effective if there isn’t some pain along the way.
I always knew how Summer’s story would start and how it would end – with her and Miles together. But this was quite the journey. This particular book was one of the hardest I’ve ever had to write. And this series made me cry more tears than I’d like to admit. So thank you for being patient with me as you waited for this book.
I hope you loved the conclusion of the Made of Steel series and that it was worth the wait! I hope you enjoyed seeing who was behind the mask and that you fell in love with these characters as much as I did. And it would seriously mean the world to me if you could share your thoughts in a review.
