HOWEVER – I reserve the right to change my mind about that. So… you know. There’s that. I can’t predict when a character or plot from another book or series might pop up in the one I’m writing.
And here’s my one rule about doing things like that – If I didn’t write it down IN THE STORY it didn’t happen. I will often get questions from readers in my Facebook Spoiler Groups asking why such-and-such did this? Or what happened to so-and-so? And I’ll usually tell them what I was thinking, or not thinking, when I wrote that part. But I always end it with the same disclaimer. If I didn’t write it down in the story I reserve the right to change my mind.
That’s because I learned a hard lesson about writing myself into a corner when I wrote my first series. If I don’t know where it’s going, or even if I do, and have BIG PLANS for these people or this certain event, then I shut my mouth about it until it’s necessary. That way I can write a better story about those people or that event in the future if I choose to.
So one day I might connect all three of these standalone books and one day I might not.
And on that note… I think my burbling has come to an end!
