Daimon gathered Cass to him, pressed his forehead to hers and then drew back so he could see her face. Gods, she was beautiful.
And a little bit angry with him.
He smoothed his palm over her cheek, trying not to think about the fact she had somehow ended up facing his father but thankful that she had stood up to him. He could only imagine the hell she had given him. His mother probably adored her for that.
He certainly adored her for it.
He dipped his head and kissed her, savoured the feel of her lips against his and the warmth of her as it chased the cold from his heart, easing his fears and giving him comfort.
She was safe now and he would keep her that way, but not by sidelining her whenever things got rough. He would keep her at his side instead, right where he needed her to be, where they could fight as one, battling to survive and have that forever they both wanted.
A forever he needed with all his heart.
The coming fight wasn’t going to be easy, he knew that, but with Cass at his side, together with his brothers and their women, he felt confident that they could win.
They were the guardians of the Underworld, protectors of Hades. Not just him and his brothers, but Cass and the other women too.
Hell, even Mister Milos.
The bastard hissed at him again.
Daimon gave him a black look.
The cat purred louder, vying for attention as Daimon stroked Cass’s cheek, as he looked into her blue eyes and saw the love in them, felt that love pouring into him through her caress as she lifted her hand and placed her palm against his cheek, mirroring him.
Daimon drew down a deep breath and found the courage to say something he had wanted to tell her so many times over the last few days.
“You were right,” he husked and held her gaze. “You did melt my heart… but you did so much more than that too. You breathed life into it. Into me.”
He lowered his head and brought his lips to hers.
“I breathe for you now. Live for you.”
He whispered against her mouth.
“I love you, Cass, and I want to be with you. Forever.”
Cass brushed her lips across his, sending a shiver rolling through him, heat and light that had the heart she now held in her hands melting as she murmured.
“I love you too.”
She kissed him, softly at first, but then passionately, had his head spinning by the time she pulled back and smiled wickedly at him.
“And I’m holding you to that forever. No escape for you now. You’re mine, Daimon.”
Daimon grinned and gathered her into his arms, careful not to crush Milos or harm the little prick with his ice as the feral beast growled at him.
And breathed against her lips before he kissed her.
“You got me.”
