An incessant ringing pulls our attention, and regretfully we both pull away. Offering one chaste kiss to her lips, I move from her space, giving her the room she needs to rise. Following behind her, I watch her answer her phone, her voice barely a whisper as she closes her eyes in frustration.
"Yeah, I'm still at work. Already? Oh, okay. No, there isn't a spare key. No! Don't come here. Give me five minutes to finish up, and I'll meet you there. It's fine. I just didn't expect you so soon. Love you, too."
Hanging up she turns to me, holding her phone in the air. "Loopy sibling?" I guess, and she rolls her eyes.
"Demanding sibling. I've... ummm…" She stumbles around her need for me to leave and I nod my head.
"It's cool, Riding Hood. Sort out the demanding sibling. Work through the other stuff. I'll be waiting. I don't like it, but I understand. Come to me when you're ready."
Walking towards her I place a kiss on her forehead, and she reaches out to squeeze my hand. "I'll call. Promise," she assures me, and I smile tightly before turning my back on her and walking away. It feels wrong and I have to force my feet with every step I make.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A blonde. A brunette. A tea lover. A coffee addict. Two people. One pen name. Haley Jenner is made up of Hailey Bond and Jenna McIntyre. We're pals, besties if you will, maybe even soulmates. Consider us the ultimate in split personality, exactly the same, but completely different.
They reside on the Gold Coast, in Australia’s sunshine state, Queensland. They lead ultra-busy lives as working mums, but wouldn’t want it any other way.
Books are a large part of their lives. Always have been and they’re firm believers that reading is an essential part of living. Escaping with a good story is one of their most favorite things, even to the detriment of sleep.
They’re first-time novelists, but long time storytellers. They love a good laugh, a strong, dominating alpha, but most importantly, know that friendships, the fierce ones, are the key to lifelong sanity and fulfillment.
