I find her pacifier and plug it back into her mouth before she wakes her mother. Gramps holds his arms out. “Meet your great granddaughter Willow.”
“Willow is kind of a sissy name for a boy,” he utters, and I shake my head as he cradles her to his chest.
“We’ve been over this. She’s a girl. We named her Willow after you,” I remind him, and he smiles and for the first time since my grandmother passed away, I see the hard bastard who raised me shed a tear or two. “Whatcha think, Gramps?”
“You did good, boy. She’s perfect. When can I take her home?”
I laugh. “In a day or two once her and Tina are released.”
“You sure we need that one.” He looks toward Tina who is starting to wake up, but I know he’s joking.
“You still trying to get rid of me,” she says on a yawn.
“Nah. I guess we’ll keep you. What do you think, little Miss?” He rocks Willow in his arms.
“Gee thanks, crabby ass.”
“Watch that mouth around my baby,” he tells her through the mask.
Tina just laughs. “His baby? Can you believe him?”
“Yeah I can.” I grin and take Willow from Gramps as she starts to cry. I hand her off to Tina and kiss both their foreheads as she pulls her top to the side so Willow can latch on to her breast to nurse. “Do you need me to grab you anything from the house?”
“Nope. I have everything I need.”
I smile at her and I agree. “Me too.” I have everything I need and more.
