"Bye!" I said cheerfully, rushing for the exit.
"You..." Dad went on. "She calls you Daddy?"
I stopped in my tracks and exchanged glances with Theo.
"Run," I whispered, and he blinked two times, fast. "Run!"
He made it past me alive and my Dad barreled after him while I giggled.
"I love you, Daddy!" I screamed after him.
They answered at the same time.
"I still love you, dear." That one from Dad.
"I'll try to make it out alive, baby girl..." From Theo.
And then they looked at one another and my father roared like a beast, chasing my husband through the restaurant while I doubled over in laughter.
Maybe then we could tell him about the baby, too.
