    If Looks Could Kill

‘Boiling over,’ he murmured. But first he needed a pee. ‘Make me some of that mint tea again, will you, Cassandra?’

Inside the bathroom he unzipped his fly and waited. The girls were smuggled via the migrant transit camps that had proliferated throughout mainland Europe in the last decade. There were men working for them in every country from Brussels to Baghdad. It was only a few dozen girls a month currently, but eventually they hoped to smuggle hundreds across and start making a small profit on the service they provided. And why not, given the risks they were taking and the quality of that service. He definitely wouldn’t be able to pee if he pursued that line of thinking.

At last the urine started to flow. Whose idea was it originally? he wondered. Rumour had it that a gang of people-smugglers from Syria was behind it all; which made sense since most of the girls seemed to originate from that region.

‘Ouch!’ he cursed at the stinging pain that cut his urinating short.

It wasn’t the first time this week, either. Jenkins stared down at his penis and noticed how red the skin appeared, shiny almost. ‘Overuse,’ he told his flaccid member. But the pain reached right up through his bladder towards his kidneys. He squeezed himself and winced at the discomfort beneath his fingertips. All the girls were tested for STI’s as a matter of course, but what if they’d missed something?

Suddenly his urine resumed its passage into the toilet bowl, but it was still stinging. And hadn’t he needed to rush to the toilet quite a few times recently, especially at night? A knock on the toilet door cut short his worrying.

‘The tea is ready,’ a gentle voice whispered. ‘And it’s very hot.’

This was every middle aged man’s dream: a girl half his age with twice his energy.

He shook himself off and stared down at the tip of his penis. Slowly a small viscous blob formed in the entrance to the urethra and plopped down into the toilet. It was slightly yellow in tinge and there was an odour like dead crabs left out in hot sunlight. He’d give his GP another visit tomorrow, he decided, flushing it away.

The knocking came again, more urgently. This was beyond willingness. The realization set him frowning. Hadn’t his colleagues made similar comments about the sexual appetites of their own concubines? Concubines who all spoke excellent English supplied by a gang from Syria, he reminded himself.

‘What if the medics had missed something?’ he thought again.

      Something new?

When Trevor Jenkins opened the bathroom door it wasn’t the naked figure of Cassandra that his eyes searched for, but the small black urn resting on the top shelf of his bookcase.

      THE END

      COMING SOON!

Geoff didn’t want to kill his wife.

Instead he did something far worse.

Geoffrey Madeley has a problem. His wife, Claire has a secret hidden on her mobile phone, and the more she tries to hide it from him, the more he thinks he knows what it is. Geoff won’t let someone take the love of his life away without a fight, however. Claire is his whole world, his soul mate. Without her he is nothing. So he contrives a plan to send bogus text messages to his rival from his wife in order to find out how serious the situation is. The replies from Claire’s lover confirm his darkest suspicions, and he fears he is about to lose her.

But all is not as it appears. His mother-in-law, Sheila also has a secret, a secret she is reluctant but seemingly driven to share with him. If he listens to her he might still avoid disaster, but Geoff’s mind has been coming apart at the seams for months. His friends and colleagues have noticed, but Geoff is oblivious, caught up in a nightmare of jealousy and paranoia.

Desperate and afraid, Geoff sets up a meeting between ‘Claire’ and her lover. But with no clear plan beyond the actual rendezvous, he is helpless as events overtake him and his rival seems poised to snatch Claire from him for good. In the grip of terror and rage, Geoff resorts to the ultimate sanction in order to save his marriage. Or so he believes.

But Geoff soon learns that his supposed rival is no rival at all, and that he has acted on a catastrophic misjudgement. Time is running out as the police search for the assailant and the truth circles ever closer towards Claire’s innocent heart. Geoff must find a way to cover up what he has done, and to keep the terrible truth – not to mention the police - at arm’s length.

Because if he doesn’t, not only will it destroy his marriage, it will turn Claire’s love into a hatred that will outlive them both.
