“I… I have something to tell you.” She pulled away, but not so far he couldn’t hold onto her arms.
“You can tell me anything. You know that. We’ve been through too much for you to fear talking to me. What has you so upset you would now hesitate?”
Caroline took a deep breath and closed her eyes. When she exhaled, she whispered, “I’m pregnant.”
Jonas couldn’t respond. It had been over forty years since Isabelle came into the world. They hadn’t done anything to prevent Caroline from getting pregnant, but they hadn’t tried for another child on purpose either.
“Say something,” Caroline pled, tears rolling down her beautiful face.
“I say congratulations, my love. All my girls will be glowing at the same time.”
“All your girls?” Caroline asked.
“I’m not supposed to say anything, but Isabelle and Tessa are also pregnant. Anthony is none too happy about becoming a big brother, either. He called asking if he could move in here until the baby was five.”
Caroline laughed, and just like that, her mood was on the upswing. “That boy. I don’t know how Tessa keeps up with him and his sister.”
Grinning, Jonas asked, “Do you still want to move to Egypt?”
Shaking her head, Caroline replied, “No. I have everything I need right here. My first Christmas wish from all those years ago may as yet come true, and Jonas, it starts, always, with you.”
