We walk in, me hiding behind Brom’s broad shoulders.
There were three counters and glass displays against the outer walls of the building: doughnuts and cakes behind one, chocolate and fudge behind another, and ice cream behind the last. In the middle of the shop sat dozens of small tables. Each table held one glass vase with one long stemmed rose. The cool air smells of sugar and romance. The shop is so utterly charming. How could I have not heard of it before?
I don’t see Antonio behind any of the counters, just college kids. I feel relief and step out from behind Brom who was ordering a banana split.
The girl behind the register asks, “What can I get for you?” I’m torn between Raspberry Cheesecake or Coffee Oreo ice cream. I open my mouth to say Coffee Oreo when I feel a tap on my right shoulder.
I spin into a black button up shirt, a handsome face, and mysterious deep green eyes. They sparkle with mischief. After glancing me up and down, pausing a beat, Antonio says, “Welcome to Enchanted Evenings, Madame. It is not often we have guests as beautiful as you. May I offer you a treat on the house?”
I feel Brom’s hand protectively rest on my arm. He says, “Excuse me?”
