The woman tilted her head up and laughed heartily. When she finished she beamed a smile that would have had me drooling if I wasn't sort of, maybe, in kind of a possible relationship with her daughter. I seriously had to clarify if what Aurora and I had was just her Fae nature teasing me or if we had something more building.
She inclined her head. “That, my dear one, is worthy of a Fae. I can see now why my daughter fawns so over you. It is agreed, I will remove the little extras I gave you, it was just a bit of harmless fun if you call your associate off. But you will still wear my mark, we had sealed it with a kiss, and you had willingly agreed to the deal. Just know that I will have to renew our original agreement from time to time since your body rejects the binding.”
I sighed, knowing that was the best I would get from her since yes, I had agreed to the original terms and that constitutes a legally binding Fae contract. I nodded and said, “Thanks Daniel,” and he moved off.
When I looked at Mab and asked, “How will the agreement be renewed, will we schedule...” and she was kissing me. My eyes were wide open as I felt her pulling power from me, her power, then it changed and she pushed it back in, ice chilling my cells. I refused to acknowledge that it was actually quite a pleasant kiss.
Aurora clearing her throat got Mab to step back, chuckling. “She's quite the kisser, daughter.”
I was blushing head to toe as Rory slipped her arm in mine possessively. I noted my breath fogging and reached up to my living ice lips.
“What about these?”
The humor left Mab's voice and her violet eyes flared dangerously as she said, “That is to remind you who you are dealing with and as a warning to others. That is my mark. You dared to insult me and a price must be paid.” She spun, her robes flaring dramatically and she pulled the air aside, and strode through the mess of cameras she had pushed aside and shorted with her magic as her guards followed.
The reporters had recorded all of that? Space me now. Aurora released my arm and grabbed my hand, lacing our fingers as she said in a chirpy and bubbly voice, “Well that went better than I would have thought.”
I pointed at my lips as if to ask if she was kidding. She instead purposely took it as an invitation and she gave me a smiling kiss and said, “I think they look kind of sexy.” Oh... ok. I sighed as I basked in her attention.
That was then, this is now. I returned my attention to the card game.
Mac looked first to Mir then the others and said as he clapped his hands in front of him and said with a grin, “Now weren't you in the middle of fleecing us for your own amusement?” He glanced at his cards and said, “Dealer, I'll take three.”
I looked around. If you would have told me a month ago that I'd be going down to Underhill for a weekly card game with a bunch of shady characters, I would have thought you crazy. But now? I saw them as friends and allies, funny how things work out.
I was looking forward to seeing what new adventures awaited me on the world.
That's when the alarm klaxons started going off.
I looked up from my cards and muttered in resignation, “Fuck me sideways and space me naked.”
