    The Officer's Daughter

To my colleague and friend, Tom Bernardo, who listened then talked me through a structural issue I didn’t realize I had. His guidance and attention to detail led me to a path that landed at the deeper meaning in the narrative of my life.

Thank you to all my readers, classmates, and fellow workshop attendees for their close reading, notes, and encouragement over the years, in particular Matthew Lieberman, Rebbie Brassfield, Angela Featherstone, Sunita Puri, Gesa Buttner, Margareta Svensson Riggs, Verner Soler, and Henriette Ivanans.

I couldn’t have crossed the finish line without Saba Saghafi and his thorough and exacting research into life’s big questions and the small details of my childhood haunts.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the dedicated civil and public servants of the city at the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Board of Parole, Office of Victim Assistance as well as to the Bronx DA Office Court Reporters, Bronx County Hall of Justice, and the Bronx County Clerk Office.

My love and appreciation to Barbara Marsh for her notes, corrections, and gracious support when I needed it most.

And, finally, thank you, Karen, for guiding me through it all.
