Haley interrupted Claude to ask if Liz Shelby in the story was the same person she knew.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Then how did she end up in Bayport, and why did you mention the Federal Reserve Bank conspiracy?”
“It’s a long story. When I finish explaining how I became J. Alfred’s stepfather, I think you’ll understand.”
Claude did not tell Haley about his instant fascination with Noreen. It felt awkward because she was now his wife. He hoped the story would be enough to answer Haley’s questions, so he continued.
