“You know what must be done. The Balance has come unhinged,” Avenstore responded, with an edge to his tone that Elion took as uncharacteristically emotional.

“The dragons live, pardoned by his actions. They now roam free, released from their slavery under the iron hand of Tantalus,” Elion commented while motioning at Alex below.

“You say that as if it is a good thing. The dragons are indebted to the wizard who released them. At best, they are now neutral, and thus irrelevant to the Balance. Unless you act, there will be war, worse than last time, and many will perish,” Avenstore answered somberly.

“There will be no war. I know what must be done,” Elion stated without looking at his counterpart.

“Soon, Elion. It must be done soon,” the Dark Elf warned.

“It will be done at an appropriate time. That is not today. Let them have their moment,” Elion replied, this time facing Avenstore and sending a clear message to stop pushing.

“As you say, not today, but soon, Elion,” the Dark Elf answered. With that, he gave a slight bow and then disappeared into the shadows.

With his departure, King Elion of the Woodland Elves turned back to the railing in time to see Alex take his bride in his arms and kiss her once more.

“Not today, probably not tomorrow, but soon,” Elion said to himself sadly.
