      Then to cap it all, there He came squeezing through the window, and he stood on his hind legs, his mane waving, and his white tail lashing from side to side.

      We were standing, Nardy’s arms around me, my arms around him when I said, ‘Will you take on Hamilton an’ all?’ And when he drew himself up and said in dignified tones, ‘Of course, I’ll take on Hamilton; your people are my people,’ I answered through choking laughter, ‘That’s a good thing, because he’s prancing behind you now with mane and tail flying.’

      Again we fell against each other, and we laughed until we ached. Then holding me from him, he said, solemnly, ‘God bless Hamilton.’ And I said, ‘Amen to that. Oh yes, amen to that, because without Hamilton I’d never have met you.’
