No more commuting on weekends. He fell to sleep and woke next to her every day, as it should be.
“Or . . .” Maggie’s expression turned sultry, almost devilish. She ran one manicured nail down the front of his shirt. “You could pick up take-out on the way home and we could stay in.”
He laughed, easily grasping the meaning of her not so subtle hint.
His wife obviously wanted to celebrate in a more private way and, still a little shell shocked by her news or not, he was completely up for that plan.
“Yeah, we can definitely do that.” He released his hold on her, but only after pressing a much too brief kiss to her lips. “Unfortunately, I’ve got a meeting to get to now.”
“I’ll let you go. I wanted to stop in Victoria’s Secret anyway.”
That meant tonight he’d be treated to a viewing of Maggie in her new lingerie.
He shook his head as his cock reacted to that image. “Jesus, woman. How am I supposed to concentrate in that meeting now?”
She tossed the pregnancy test into the trashcan by the door before she sent him a steamy glance as she reached for the doorknob. “You’ll figure it out. See you later. Love you.”
“Love you.” He watched her go and then had to wrestle his attention back to what he was supposed to be doing.
What had that been again? Right. The meeting.
He moved toward the door, trying to pull himself out of his newlywed mindset and get back into lieutenant commander mode.
As he reached for the knob, his gaze landed on the trashcan. He stopped short, his hand resting on the knob but he didn’t open the door. It was as if he’d forgotten what he’d been about to do.
The pregnancy test sat innocently on top of a Styrofoam take-out container. Just a little piece of plastic, but it had the power to rattle him. Him, a battle hardened SEAL commander.
He blew out a breath and actually managed to get the door open this time.
He had two minutes to compose himself as he made his way from his office to that of the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Inside the meeting room, more people than he’d expected to see sat at the table. And not lower level staffers either, but agency heads.
He lifted a brow. If the heavy hitters were in attendance something big was up. Though he should have realized that even before entering the room, simply from the fact he’d only been given thirty minutes notice for this emergency meeting.
Something had happened. The only question was, what?
That was apparently soon to be answered. The representative from the Secret Service glanced up and cleared his throat.
Looking concerned, he said, “Sorrel is missing.”
Silas’s eyes popped wide at hearing the code name the Secret Service used for the first daughter.
What the fuck? It couldn’t be. The President’s teenage wild child daughter was missing?
Holy shit.
“Evidence suggests she’s been in communication with a certain cult leader's son. It’s feared she's run off with him. If that is the case, of course POTUS wants this issue resolved as quickly and as quietly as possible.”
Which would make it the perfect job for Bone Frog Command. In fact, Silas had the perfect man in mind for the job—Garrett Tierney.
Silas voiced as much. “My division can handle this. Quick and quiet.”
The Deputy Secretary nodded. “I agree. Get on it right away. Keep me updated, but I’ll trust you and your team to handle this.”
Just the way he liked it.
“Yes, ma’am.” Silas stood, the adrenaline pumping as he took the folder the secret service handed him. “I’ll go make the call.”
Time to save the day. Now, in light of what Maggie had shared, he had more reason than ever to make sure he and his team were there to rid the world of everything bad in it.
