A knock on the door interrupted us. "Mr. Hayes? You're on in two minutes."
"All right. All right." I grunted as I heaved myself off the floor. Running a hand through my hair, I inspected the damage and zipped up my jeans. "We'll, uh, leave a check?"
Ade scrambled to get dressed. "I blame you."
At some point, we'd tipped over a flower vase, and her comment made me keep quiet when, maybe, I shouldn’t be. She was stumbling into her tight-as-fuck jeans, each jumpy step bringing her closer to the big puddle of water on the carpet.
And there. She stepped right into it. Enjoy wet socks in those boots.
"You can blame me for that, too." I smiled.
She huffed and ripped off her sock. "You're a dick, Lincoln Hayes. An insufferable dick."
"Wait, my phone's ringing." She scanned the floor. "Do you hear it?"
I did, and I helped her search, recognizing the ringtone as Pop's. He and Abel were watching our daughter until we came home tomorrow.
"She misses Daddy." I found the phone under a pile of fruit. The tray must've hit the floor… Ade tried to grab the phone from me, and I held it out of her reach. "Fuck no, I'm talking to her first."
"I swear—" She twisted my nipple, and that shit hurt. I dropped the phone, which she caught. "Hi, sweetie! Is everything okay?" My guess, it was Abel.
I rubbed my chest, severely wounded.
It was okay, though.
