As much as Hannah had suspected it was the case, it still didn’t cushion the blow of hearing it spoken out loud. “Wow, Logan. Congratulations. I know you’ve wanted this for a very long time.”
“I have. I just didn’t expect to meet you in the meantime. I swear, Hans, if I’d known—”
She put up a hand to stop him. “It’s okay. I understand. Going to Africa is a huge big deal, you shouldn’t feel anything other than excited about it.” Every word hurt her to say it, but it was really how she thought about the situation. Dreams were massive, and if you didn’t chase them when you had the opportunity, then how could you possibly make them come true?
“I’m going to miss you,” Logan confessed.
“I’ll miss you too. But this is something you need to do. Promise me you’ll keep in touch?”
A hint of his old smile returned. “Try to stop me.”
She was pulled into his arms as they hugged. It spoke of all the possibilities their relationship could have brought. But it wasn’t supposed to be. Logan and Hannah’s lives were in different positions. Their paths were forking off into two different directions. Maybe one day they would come together again, but not right now.
Right now, their fates lay elsewhere.
