She gave me a faint smile. “While I am happy for everyone, it is getting a little crazy around here, isn’t it?”
I nodded, relieved she noticed it as well. I wasn’t against the relationships at all. People I had never thought would even remotely be engaged or married seemed deliriously happy and I was happy for them all.
I just wanted to do my job though. “What’s the job?”
“I need you to track Voodoo,” she said. “Chains and I talked about it and you are unassuming. You can pose as anyone and he’s never seen you up close before. You could probably track him in plain sight, and he wouldn’t know.”
Okay, not the kind of job I was hoping for. “Where is he?”
She handed over a phone. “You can track him with this. Machine Gun was able to slip a tracker in his bag the last time they were together. We need to make sure he’s not going to spread our secrets now. He promised, but I’m not sure I trust him.”
I nodded. “I’ll do it. I’ll leave within the hour.”
“I knew I could count on you,” she answered, a grim smile on her face. “Make sure you don’t get yourself killed, alright?”
I stood. “Don’t worry about me. I can handle myself.”
“I know,” Widow Maker answered. “Take whatever you need. I’m counting on you to make sure he doesn’t share his intel with anyone else.”
Walking out of the office, I clenched the phone tightly in my grasp. This was what I had been looking for, a chance to do something worthwhile for once. I loved this club and would lay down my life for it. I had dodged enough bullets in my lifetime for them anyway.
Looking down at the phone, I saw the blinking indicator of the tracker for the CIA agent. I knew he was bad blood the moment I leaned he was undercover and now I was going to ensure he didn’t do any harm to our club.
This was my family, both clubs were, and some of the members were looking at futures, kids. Having us sucked up by the government and thrown into prison could not be part of that plan. Voodoo had made his peace with Machine Gun, stating he wasn’t going to prosecute, but I had to make sure he followed through with that plan.
If I didn’t, we would have much more to worry about than the cartel.
