      XXX. And what of Tolstoy’s acquaintance, the landowner Bibikov and his Anna? Bibikov must have seen the same crushed body that Tolstoy saw, but he was not deflected from marrying the lover who had supplanted desperate Anna Pirogova. Vronsky certainly is a more romantic hero than the real-life Bibikov.
