Lucy pulled away, a small grin on her face as she pulled Dex toward the front door. “There’s someone you need to meet.”
She raised her eyebrows. “Someone more important than your mother? I already won her to my side, you know.”
“I did notice there seemed to be a conspiracy taking place. But no, this is a great judge of character, and I need his approval before we can proceed.”
She laughed. She loved this light, teasing side of Lucy. “Lead on.”
“Oh wait,” Lucy said, dropping her hand and running back inside the house.
“Now I’m intrigued,” she said, glancing at the carrot in Lucy’s hand when she returned. “I hope I can pass this guy’s test.”
Lucy smiled as she stared into her eyes. “I hope you do too.”
