Suddenly, the air in the room changed, and Paris knew he’d entered the bar before she turned her head his direction.
She sucked in a breath and held it as he smiled at her, larger than life. And then he was walking toward her. Somehow he seemed even broader every year. Thicker. Stronger.
She had no idea what he did for a living, but maybe he was a bodybuilder or something. Jeez.
She wanted to jump off the stool and run toward him, fling herself at him. But she didn’t. Partly because she didn’t want to seem overly eager, but also because she couldn’t move. She was mesmerized by his advance. He was wearing dark jeans, a tight navy designer T-shirt, and brown loafers. All she could do was lick her lips.
And then he was there, in her space, still closing the distance. Still smiling. Without a word, his hand came to the back of her neck and his lips descended. He kissed her as though they were lovers and he’d been gone for a month.
They weren’t lovers, and he’d been gone for a year.
She melted as his fingers curled into the back of her neck, and he angled his head to deepen the kiss.
Yeah, she’d missed him. Missed this. Sometimes, between visits, she would doubt her memory, begin to think she was making him up. And then he would show up and remind her he was real and as good as she recalled. Better.
By the time he ended the kiss, she was panting. Her nipples were hard and rubbing against the lace of her thin bra. She wished she’d simply asked him to come to her apartment. He had no idea where she lived, but she’d rather be alone with him now than in this crowded bar.
The truth was that she’d feared he might not have shown up if she’d invited him into her intimate space. She hoped by the end of the night they would end up there though. Hell, she hoped he would never leave. She was tired of hotel rooms and anonymity.
“Damn,” he murmured, his lips still against hers. “It never changes.”
She nodded slightly. He was right, and thank God he felt the same energy and chemistry as her.
