  I turned back toward April, and she was still beaming. “What did he want?”

  “Looks like we are up on the rotation for tonight.”

  “You’re kidding.”

  “Afraid not.”

  “Fine, but we are taking tomorrow off.”

  “As you wish.” She tossed me my go bag, and we headed for the door. I turned back after she went through. “Save me a piece of that fucking cake.” And then I was running to catch up with the love of my life.
