I wrap my arms around her, holding her as she cries in a way I have never seen before. “The test is on the counter. Look for me, daddy.”
I reach over and take the test, seeing the word PREGNANT in bold letters on the screen.
“I am, aren’t I?” she asks, sitting back, and I nod.
She closes her eyes, breathing deeply. “I want my baby, Daddy. Everything happens for a reason in life, doesn't it?”
I push her wet hair out of her face, away from her tears. “Your mom and I will always be with you, baby, we will help you, support you, and I want you to follow your dreams. You won’t do this alone.”
She smiles. “I know, Daddy, you always told me, that no matter what, you got me.” She fist-bumps my hand.
That doesn't stop the fiery burning in my chest at the thought of who did this to my baby. I hear a sniff, and see Brittany standing at the door with the same look on her face.
We are going to war.
