“Yes, love. I’ve had enough of Christmas. Let’s get some sun.”
Tyler comes around, although he drinks a lot of sherry and never seems to lose his shocked face. I let him know it’s all on film to watch later.
Seven pm comes around and it’s onto our engagement party.
Dylan shouts for quiet. “Thanks everyone for coming to celebrate our engagement, but it doesn’t feel right to only celebrate our own good fortune. So here’s to the other engaged couple of the moment, and a hearty celebration to the baby news too.”
We all cheer.
“Now, let’s get pissed and celebrate,” he yells. “Except you, Lindsay, of course. Lemonade okay?”
Chapter Sixteen
Beth
We make it home and relax by the fireplace, the fire started, all glowing and warm.
“I can’t believe Tyler’s going to be a father,” says Leo.
“Me neither. You’ll have to give him a helping hand.”
“Can’t really help him with the newborn stage, can I?” he says and I wince.
“Oh, I don’t mean anything by that, Beth. I’m just being honest. Really, I wouldn’t have a clue where to start. I’d be bricking myself, like he no doubt is.”
“Is that so?” I reply and take out the test wrapped in toilet paper from my bag. I hand it to Leo. He looks at the little blue line.
His jaw drops. “You’re pregnant?”
“No. We’re pregnant.”
He leaps to his knees. “Oh my God. Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I reckon it happened the night you got me that outfit, the red one. When Miranda gave me the test, I just did it to shut her up. She’s like another Dora. I wasn’t telling everyone though. You missed out last time, this time it needs to be special for you.”
“Oh my God. I can’t believe it. Another child with my beautiful fiancée. Hey, can we get married quickly? I want you to be my wife as soon as possible.”
“Anytime you want is fine with me.”
He pulls me into his arms and kisses the top of my head. “I’ve a lot to thank that little red ribbon costume for. Any time you want to hide a sexy Santa outfit in my drawer, go right ahead.”
I lean back and peer at him. “What are you talking about?”
The outfit you left, with the note. I have to say though, that fucking elf nearly made me crap my pants, so leave that out next time.
Elf? My mind works furiously. If not Leo, who would leave a Sexy Santa outfit in our house? What with that and the mystery nurse. Then it comes to me. Someone who likes naughty outfits. Someone who no doubt thought they’d disguise themselves as a nurse. Bloody Dora. I’m changing the locks. Though at least I have a babysitter for life, because she’s responsible for this new one. I stroke my stomach.
With Trey in bed fast asleep. Leo and I make slow, sweet love in front of the fire. I feel totally at home and settled for the first time in years.
Dora
It’s not until I get back from two weeks of sun, sea and shagging that I realise I missed my appointment to change my coil. I’m sure it’ll be fine though. Won’t it?
