“That’s fine,” Aunt Tillie replied, nonplussed. “We can go through the whole rigmarole if you want. We’ll get DNA tests. When you lose, though, I’m going to stick you with all of our legal bills. How does that sound?”

“Grandma, I’m not sure we should do this,” Rosemary offered, her voice low. “If Aunt Tillie is right … .”

      “She’s not right!”

“If she is, though, we could be on the hook for thousands of dollars in legal fees,” Rosemary said. “Do you really want to risk that?”

“You said we had a fool-proof case,” Aunt Willa charged, whirling on Rosemary. “You said … .”

“I know what I said,” Rosemary replied, gritting her teeth. “Now I’m saying something different. If this is true, you don’t have any claim on the property.”

“But … I want my money.” Aunt Willa was too stubborn for her own good. She had that in common with Aunt Tillie.

“You already got your money,” Landon said. “You should probably go. If you don’t, I will arrest you for trespassing. I’m not messing around. We’ve had a long day and you’re the last thing we want to deal with.”

“This isn’t over,” Aunt Willa warned as Rosemary pulled her toward the door. “I’m going to … do something.”

Aunt Tillie followed Aunt Willa, giddiness practically wafting off of her as she started to dance. “I don’t want you to think this changes everything, Willa,” she said, pushing the door open so Rosemary would have an easier time dragging her grandmother out of the building. “You’re still my half-sister. As my half-sister, I want you to know that you’re a bitch. See, that’s still the same.”

“I … no!” Aunt Willa was on the verge of losing it. “This isn’t what was supposed to happen!”

“The good news for you is now I only have to do half a dance on your grave,” Aunt Tillie said. “It will be half the work, but twice the fun.” She slammed the door in Aunt Willa’s face, cutting off some colorful swearing, and turned to us. “I’m starving. Let’s eat.”

“Another fun day in the Winchester house,” Landon said, chuckling as he prodded me toward the kitchen. “Aunt Tillie is in a good mood.”

      “She is.”

“I think I’m going to ask her for a favor.” Landon moved in Aunt Tillie’s direction. It took me a moment to realize what he was about to do.

“I’ll never sleep with you again if you make me smell like bacon,” I called to his back. We both knew it was an empty threat.

“Oh, come on, little witch,” Landon teased, wriggling his eyebrows. “It will be fun for the both of us. I promise.”

Oh, how bad could it be?

      Author’s Note

I want to thank everyone who takes the time to read my novels. I have a particular brand of humor that isn’t for everyone – and I know that.

If you liked the book, please take a few minutes and leave a review. An independent author does it all on their own, and the reviews are helpful. I understand that my characters aren’t for everyone, though. There’s a lot of snark and sarcasm in my world – and I know some people don’t like that.

Special thanks go out to Heidi Bitsoli and Phil VanHulle for correcting the (numerous) errors that creep into a work of fiction.

If you’re interested in my future works, follow me on Facebook, Twitter or join my mailing list. I do not believe in spam. I only announce new releases or free promotions.

This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places, events and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.
