Garden Game
By Loretta Oleck
in the garden wearing flat leopard shoes
reaping the harvest of herbs
a shower of diamond dew
you stand by the purple ruffled basil
one hand a visor over squinting black eyes
one hand carelessly holding a dusty trowel
head cocked dramatically to the side
wondering which is the best direction to
carve the path
stab the earth
drag your spade
a roulette circle cutting curved lines
through the center of tangled thyme
resting my bets that your labyrinth
will lead under the dangling snap peas
and land on me
