I fall beside him on the piano stool, my hand snaking around his waist, resting my head on his shoulder as Larissa’s eyes burn into us. Her face is set in a fury of flaming hot anger. Her fists balled and knuckles are white. Tenley is standing stock still looking up at me with tears in her eyes as I sing out the last of the song into my love’s ear with the whole world watching us, yet this is the most alone and peaceful I have felt since I walked into this nightmare and got lost in all its noise, secrets and snarky bitch squad democracy.
Colton’s fingers still on the keys, his head turns. As I move to look at him, he lowers his head to mine.
“Could you still love me even if I fail at loving you when the pain gets real and the dark settles?” he says to me as a tear rolls down his cheek.
“If you promise to hold me through all the hurt,” I whisper back.
