  AUTHOR’S NOTE

I frequently get requests for more stories about certain characters. Unfortunately, the characters don’t always agree with that. I know it’s weird, but it’s the blessing-curse of being a writer. Meanwhile, I thought it would be interesting (and hope you do, too) to visit some of our friends from the Suncoast Society during one of their private house parties.

While the books in the Suncoast Society series are standalone works which may be read independently of each other, the recommended reading order to avoid spoilers is as follows:

  1. Safe Harbor

  2. Cardinal’s Rule

  3. Domme by Default

  4. The Reluctant Dom

  5. The Denim Dom

  6. Pinch Me

  7. Broken Toy

  8. A Clean Sweep

  9. A Roll of the Dice

  10. His Canvas

  11. A Lovely Shade of Ouch

  12. Crafty Bastards

An e-mail sent out by Ross to specially selected members of the Suncoast Society munch group:

  November 20…

  Dear Friends,

Seth and Leah would like to invite you and your significant and non-significant others to a kinky Christmas/Holiday/ (insert your preferred choice here) Jingle-Your-Balls Party. (Or, if you’re into CBT, a Nutcracker’s Party.)

Dress up (or down!) for the holidays and a sexy night of festive unwrapping of people…eh, or whatever decks your halls—or submissives.

Santa might even show up with a sack full of presents for the naughty boys and girls. (Come on, we know you all aren’t innocent!) Extra goodies for whoever comes up with the most interesting way to hang something off a submissive…or of suspending a submissive, for that matter.

The event takes place Saturday, December 17th.

RSVP to Ross before Monday, December 12th. Directions and gate access code will be sent to those who RSVP on Tuesday, December 13th.

  Arrive after 6:00 p.m.

Dinner will be at 7:00 p.m.

  Stay and play until ???

There is a heated pool and a hot tub. If you’d like to use them, bring a towel and a bathing suit. The towel is mandatory, but the suit is optional.

Please bring a side dish to share, and beverages of your choice. There will be a main barbecue dish provided, beef and chicken.

  House Rules:

1)Please arrive in non-fetish attire. The neighbors are very vanilla and we do not want to upset their peaceful world.

2)Dress for a sexy holiday barbecue and if you want to change (or strip) after dark for sexy play, that’s okay, too.

3)Don’t bring uninvited guests. We usually say yes if you want to add someone, but please ask first. And please don’t talk about the party to anyone not on the guest list.

4)NO drugs. No smoking inside (outside on lanai ONLY in designated area).

5)Alcohol is allowed, but you must bring your own and play responsibly.

  6)Please leave the park
ing spaces near the house free for people bringing play furniture. If you wish to bring play furniture, please coordinate with Ross, Seth, or Tony.

7)The house is on a septic system, so no…

  Chapter Two

As dusk fell, the three men stood in Seth’s front yard and surveyed the results of their efforts.

“I can’t believe it’s been almost four years,” John quietly said.

  The other two men nodded.

Before them, an elaborate Christmas display filled Seth and Leah’s large yard. Lights, inflatables, wire animals, and Christmas trees—anything imaginable.

The front door opened. Leah, Seth’s wife and slave, stepped outside, followed by Tony’s wife, Shayla, and John’s fiancée, Abbey. Shayla and Abbey had helped Leah put up the decorations in the house, except for the Christmas tree.

That was something Leah reserved for only her and Seth to do.

The women walked down to join their men, who’d just spent the past two days setting up the display. This coming Thursday was Thanksgiving. Seth had wanted the display up and ready to throw the switch before Thanksgiving dinner.

“It’s beautiful,” Leah said as Seth slipped his arm around her shoulders. “I love it. Thank you.”

He kissed the top of her head. “You’re always welcome, sweetheart.”

They didn’t set the display up for the public. Their small gated community of large, secluded lots wasn’t exactly accessible by just anyone.

They still put up the display for Kaden. Because it had been his obsession, his love. And by putting it up, in some small way it kept his spirit alive for them. Made his death just a little bit easier to contemplate.

Shayla and Abbey had joined their respective men, everyone falling quiet as they revisited their memories of Kaden.

It was Seth who finally broke the silence. “You know he’d be bummed out at us feeling bummed out, right?”

“Yeah,” everyone else quietly said in unison.

“Dinner’s ready,” Leah said. “Let’s go eat.” She patted Seth’s chest. “Then you can start working on putting up the Christmas tree.”

Seth gave her a mock groan. “Slavedriver.”

“You should know, Sir,” she teased right back.

The men sent their women back into the house while they picked up a few stray items and packed them away in the mountain of plastic tubs and boxes much of the display was usually stored in.

“How is she, really?” Tony asked Seth.

“That first Christmas and New Year’s was the hardest,” Seth said. “It’s never going to be ‘easy’ for her, but we’re long past the worst.”

“I’m not going to lie to you,” Tony said. “I’m glad you stepped up. I would have helped out because Kaden asked me to, but you have no idea how glad I am you were able to take care of her. I thought Kaden was overreacting…” He trailed off.

Most of their close friends had said something similar.

  Before.

They’d all thought Kaden was overreacting at the time, underestimating Leah’s ability to cope in the wake of his death and not knowing her full past history of self-harm.

Those who saw her at her worst, at her weakest in the wake of Kaden’s death, however, no longer doubted why Kaden had pushed Seth so hard and set up things the way he had. Making sure all Seth had to do was follow Kaden’s explicit instructions in the days and weeks immediately following his passing.

“I’m glad she had you there for her,” John said as he grabbed a pile of plastic totes to carry to the garage.

“I’m just glad I had her there for me,” Seth said.

  * * * *

They ate on the back lanai, at the table next to the pool. The beautiful thing about autumns and winters in southwest Florida, they could venture outside without wilting from the heat and humidity, or freezing to death. Seth loved the house, backed up against a wooded nature preserve. Quiet, peaceful.

Except for when they threw kinky parties, of course. Fortunately, the way the house was laid out on the property, and due to the large size of the lots, their neighbors remained blissfully unaware of those activities. There were fifty homes in the development, each with a five-acre, wooded lot.

It afforded them a lot of privacy.

“Sully, Mac, and Clarisse are going to drive up Friday night, and then spend the night here after the Christmas party, too,” Leah told Seth. “I called them after Ross sent the invites out. That gives them plenty of time to line up a babysitter, and no excuses to miss the party.”

“Good,” Abbey said. “They don’t get down as much as they used to. I’ve missed them.”

Shayla giggled. “I heard Clarisse joking at the last munch they were at, that if either of her men get her pregnant again, she’s going to engage in a little bit of nonconsensual medical play with the two of them.” She made a scissoring motion with her right hand. “Vasectomies.”

“I heard her, too,” Leah said. “And she wasn’t joking.”

“I’m glad Tilly’s not here to toss in her two cents’ worth,” Tony said. “She’d probably offer to help.”

“And since she’s a nurse, she probably could,” John said.

“I never thought I’d see the day Tilly considers you one of her best friends,” Seth said to John.

Abbey proudly smiled up at her fiancé. “All she needed was to get to know his non-SAM side,” she said.

Tony reached for another dinner roll. “I’m just glad Derrick finally booted Lydia from the club for good. He was too nice to her for too damn long. Between the way she got snotty with you that night at the club, then that damn stunt she pulled with Cali, Max, and Sean, she’s lucky Tilly didn’t go after her and kick her ass.”

“Tilly wanted to,” John said. “Landry and Cris overruled her.”

“Prison orange is not her color,” everyone said in unison, followed by laughter.

  * * * *

Once their friends had left for the evening and Leah and Seth were alone again, he pulled her close in the front yard as they stared at the lit Christmas light display.

“How are you doing, love? Honestly.” He still sometimes worried about missing something, overlooking a sign, and having something bad catch him unawares.

She rested her head against his chest, her arms around him. “I’m okay,” she said. “Honestly. I’m sad, but it’s not the bad kind of sad. It’s always going to hurt, and I’m always going to have times where I cry sometimes, but I can think about the good times now without crying.”

He breathed a sigh of relief. “Good.” He nuzzled his face against the top of her head and tried not to think about one of the conversations he’d had earlier with John and Tony while they worked out in the yard.

One of those “just in case” kind of scenarios.

If something ever happened to him. If he wasn’t there to anchor Leah.

One of the contingencies Kaden hadn’t prepared for, so certain Seth would always be there for her. But having been through this once with Leah, he understood all too well the risks.

Seth knew he needed plans of his own in place to keep her going in case anything ever happened to him. He’d already talked to Landry and Cris, Mac and Sully, Ross, and a few others. Tony and John would spearhead the effort, Tony having also seen it up close and personal when they lost Kaden.

Not that Seth expected to need those kinds of plans for decades, or longer.

But Kaden probably once thought that, too.

“I’m not as fragile as everyone thinks I am,” Leah quietly said, startling him.

He pulled away enough he could look down into her green eyes. Multicolored lights from the display cast her features in a variety of shadows of different shades and angles, a complex picture. “What?”

She sadly smiled. “I probably wouldn’t have survived losing him,” she said. “Not without you. But on the other side of it, as much as it hurt, and seeing how our friends stepped in… I promise, if I have to go through it again, somehow
, I’ll make it through it.”

She pulled him close once more, jabbing him in the ribs with a finger. “But I forbid you from putting me in that situation, Sir. So it’s moot, anyway.”

He chuckled. “Getting a little toppy from the bottom, are we, love?”

  “In this case, yes, Sir.”

“Well, I promise to do my best not to put you in that situation.”

“Good. Now can we stop thinking about depressing stuff and focus on the fact that it’s going to be Christmas soon?” She stared at the yard display. The various blowups filled the air with a soft, ever-present whirr of electric fan motors.

“Who’s playing Santa, anyway?” Seth asked.

  “Scrye.”

“Oh. He is the perfect Santa.”

“Tilly and Loren have already started putting together kinky gifts for his sexy sack of fun, as they called it.”

  “I’m afraid to ask.”

“So am I, which is why I let Tilly have fun with it. At least this crowd is hard to shock.”

  “True.”

She reached down and patted him on the ass. “How about we go back inside now and continue our party discussions there?”

“You can’t fool me. You don’t want to talk.”

She untangled herself from him, casting a smile at him over her shoulder before she headed for the front door. “Guilty, Sir.”

He smiled, taking in the yard one last time. He’d snapped hundreds of pictures of the last two years of Kaden’s displays and tried to emulate them as much as possible.
