Nannies, Inc.
Miss Elizabeth Watson had been a babysitter all her life. She still remembered the first time she had 'sat' for the Jones’, her neighbours at number 4, Moon Crescent.
They had had three children: two girls and a boy, aged between two and seven. Charlotte, seven; Sarah, five; and little Steven, two, had been adorable and she'd had so much fun with them. She had loved every minute of it: the playing, the feeding, the cuddling while watching The Little Mermaid on TV.
She had been thirteen, and had even felt bad at the end of the evening when Mr Jones had handed her a £20 note in payment for her services. From then on, she had become a favourite amongst her parents' friends to take care of their little ones when they needed a much deserved night off.
By the time she was eighteen, she was working every night and earning as much as her mother, who was a sales advisor in a perfumery.
She didn't mind missing the parties and the general teenage activities her friends liked to engage in. She was happy. Her job made her happy.
Now, aged 32, she had a Ph.D. in Child and Youth Care – also paid for mostly by her babysitting – and had tried the teaching road, failing miserably. She had a calling, and now, as she looked again at the newspaper, she knew the heavens had answered her prayers. The job advertisement read:
