  Poetry Physician

  I went to my study,

  With black bag in hand,

  I took out my stethoscope,

  Reached in for my pen,

  I heard a faint heartbeat,

  Stethoscope in my ear,

So, I made a change there,

  I made a change here,

  Then all of a sudden,

  The patient began to breath,

  I was so excited,

  I got feelings of relief,

  Then out of the blue,

  From a poetic sky,

  I felt the contractions,

It brought tears to my eyes,

And with a new sheet of paper,

  Pen clutched in my hand,

  I began writing,

  The words flowing like mad,

And as I came from the study,

  I exclaimed to my wife,

I saved one patient from dying,

  And brought another to life.

  The Journey

  We're only a soul,

  Housed in a shell,

  Destined for heaven,

  Or destined for hell,

  And the day will come,

  When the shell breaks,

  Releasing the soul,

  For the journey it takes.

  Battle of the Insects

  A battalion of cockroaches,

  And an army of ants,

  Fought over parcels of bread,

  The ants were fiery warriors,

  Attempting to sting,

  The cockroaches to death,

  But the cockroach commander,

  Knew the history of cockroaches,

And their survival over the years,

  So he wasn’t about,

  To let a few ants,

  Push him away from here,

  He instructed his forces,

  "Go kidnap the queen",

And they did as he had said,

  Then a ransom note,

  To the ants was delivered,

  Demanding the parcels of bread,

  As the queen was released,

  The ants retreated,

Giving up the parcels of bread,

  And this time the cockroaches,

  Outsmarted the ants,

  And kept their bellies fed.

  Confessions of a Broken Heart

  His love for me,

  Was like a song,

  Climbing up the charts,

  But way too soon,

  Love crashed and burned,

The day he broke my heart,

My friends say, “it’s not easy”,

For a broken heart to mend,

But I must pull myself together,

If I’m to ever love again.

  Don’s Electric/Wind Powered Car

  Don was a doer,

  He fixed things at night,

  And when others saw darkness,

  Don could see light,

  His most prized possession,

  Was his electric car,

  Don saved it from salvage,

  From a nearby salvage yard,

  And Don’s imagination,

  Was a colorful one,

  And it didn’t take much,

  For an idea to come,

  Like seeing a pinwheel,

From the window of a car,

  Spinning like crazy,

From the current of the air,

  So Don built a turbine,

  For his electric car,

  With a scoop so designed,

  To channel the air,

And as his car gained speed,

  The turbine would spin,

  Turning the shaft,

  On a generator within,

  Don vented used air,

  Out the car’s either side,

  While maintaining balance,

  Without compromise,

  The generator sent current,

  To the battery pack,

  If the motors needed power,

  There was never a lack,

  Some observers say,

  Don offered false hope,

  But Don only smiled,

As he sailed down the road.

  Poetry in a Box

The top is like the bottom,

And the bottom’s like the top,

  The sides keep it together,

  Even if it’s dropped,

And if one comes to mind,

  And I don't know what I’ve got,

I roll up my sleeve and reach,

  Deep inside the box.

  Revealed in Poetry

  It can be good,

  Or it can be bad,

  Sometimes it’s happy,

  Sometimes it’s sad,

  But nevertheless,

  Time and again,

  Had you only known,

  It couldn’t have been,

  It appears out of nowhere,

  Right before your eyes,

  And that’s what it’s like,

  To be totally surprised.

  The Gift

I met an old man on the path,

  His legs were clearly spent,

His face was worn and wrinkled,

His back was curved and bent,

He said, “I see you’re going,

  To places I've already been,

And I'd love to go there with you,

But I can’t go back again,

So take what I have with you,

It may help you, if you do,

And when it’s time, pass it on,

  For we’re only passing through.”

  Pedaling Backward

I feel like I’m pedaling backward,

  And getting nowhere fast,

  Today seems like yesterday,

And tomorrow will seem like today,

  Yes, peddling backward,

  And getting no where fast,

But I hope things will change,

And the future won’t resemble the past,

  But until that day, />
  I remain,

  Pedaling backward,

  And getting nowhere fast.

  Trade Offs

  He built the garage,

  Next to a tree,

  Not elsewhere,

  Could it go,

  But in the fall

  Leaves covered the roof,

  It was a problem so,

  He removed the tree,

  Thinking he,

  Had solved the problem,

  Until,

  Rain gathered,

  Beside the garage,

  And seeped in,

  Under the sill.

  Venus and the Sun

  Like a tiny black spot,

  On a big orange ball,

  Venus danced across the sun,

  While ground observers,

  Used protective glasses,

To catch a glimpse of the fun,

  And this celestial event,

  Would not be repeated,

For a hundred years or more,

  So, I went outside,

  With everyone else,

To see what was in store,

  And it made me wonder,

  What life will be like,

  The next time Venus comes,

  To raise the curtain,

  On the celestial stage,

  And dance across the sun.

  Touie Tortoise

  Touie Tortoise was a tortoise,

His feet moved ever so slow,

His bunny friends made fun of him,

  Everywhere he’d go,

But then one day a hungry cat,

  Prowled on the forest floor,

  Touie ducked into his shell,

  And quickly slammed the door,

His bunny friends heard the noise,

  And swiftly got away,

  Now Touie is a hero,

When they go out and play.

  At School on Saturday

  Does your school looked funny?

  With nobody in it,

Can you run down the hall?

  In a New York minute,

Can you get to your locker?

  When no one’s against it,

  Does your school looked funny?

  With nobody in it.
