  AUTHOR’S NOTE

My characters don’t always cooperate and agree when I want to coax a full book out of any particular set of them. So here’s a look at one of their private Valentine’s Day parties.

  Chapter One

An e-mail sent out by Ross to specially selected members of the Suncoast Society munch group:

  January 15th…

  Dear Friends,

Gilo and abbey (or Abbey and gilo, depending on who’s in which role that night) would like to invite you and your significant and non-significant others to a kinky Valentine’s Day Pink-and-Red Asses Party.

Dress up (or down!) for a sexy night of festivities.

Please bring an inexpensive gag gift for our Valentine’s exchange. (Sexy, or not, your call. Maybe a chance for you to ditch those things you picked up during work holiday parties, or what Tilly saddled you with at Kinkmas!) And riggers, don’t forget your ropes. There will be a suspension frame provided if you’d like to make use of it. We’ll also have a rope contest, and the crowd-judged favorite will win a $50 gift certificate to Sigalo’s. (Thank you, Tony and Shayla, for that donation.)

The event takes place Saturday, February 15th.

RSVP to Ross BEFORE Monday, February 10th. Directions and parking information will be sent to those who RSVP on Tuesday, February 11th.

  Arrive after 6:00 p.m.

Dinner will be at 7:00 p.m.

  Stay and play until ???

There is a heated pool and a hot tub. If you’d like to use them, bring a towel and a bathing suit. The towel is mandatory, but the suit is optional.

This is a potluck, so please bring a side dish to share, and beverages of your choice. There will be a main barbecue dish provided (beef and chicken).

  House Rules:

1)Please arrive in non-fetish attire. The neighbors are very vanilla and we do not want to upset their peaceful world.

/>   2)Dress for a sexy barbecue and if you want to change (or strip) after dark for sexy play, that’s okay, too.

3)Don’t bring uninvited guests (we usually say yes if you want to add someone, but please ask first), and please don’t talk about the party to anyone not on the guest list.

4)NO drugs. No smoking inside (outside on lanai ONLY in designated area).

5)Alcohol is allowed, but you must bring your own and play responsibly.

6)While the lanai is open to play, no whips, impact play, or otherwise loud play outside, please. Meaning gag those noisy orgasmers, one way or another. While there is a privacy fence, the neighbors might hear. (And the only handcuffs, tasers, and riot batons we want to see are the ones we bring, not the po-po’s.)

7)Please leave the parking spaces near the house free for people bringing play furniture. If you wish to bring play furniture, please coordinate with Ross, Seth, or Tony…

  Chapter Two

John Gilomen, Gilo to many of his friends in the kink community, stared at his handiwork. “Well, hon? What do you think?”

Abbey studied the setup. It was Friday evening, Valentine’s Day. They’d agreed to spend a quiet night at home, since V-Day being on a Friday meant it’d be absolutely nuts if they went out. Tomorrow night during the private party they were throwing would be their “official” Valentine’s Day celebration.

On his way home from work, John had stopped by a home improvement store to pick up supplies. Now, Tortoise Town lay surrounded by a waist-high barrier of orange construction mesh draped over sawhorses on their lanai.

“It’s definitely visible,” Abbey said. “If anyone runs into it, they’d have to be blind. Or blindfolded.”

“We can set him up in his bunker and put it in our bedroom for the night, if you want. I don’t mind bringing it in and setting it up.”

They’d started calling the backup plastic kiddie pool they used to corral the Russian tortoise in the house “the bunker,” because it usually meant the weather was so bad they couldn’t leave George out in his lanai enclosure, either because of rain or cold temperatures.

The second of which, fortunately, being in Sarasota, didn’t happen very often.

  The first, however…

“No, I’m sure he’ll be okay,” she said. “We’ll set up chairs along it with the backs turned to it. And we’ll warn everyone to be careful. They’ve all been here before. They know the drill.”

  “If you’re sure.”

  “I am.”

George was her baby, over twenty-two years old. Abbey had purchased the Russian tortoise as a hatchling when she was in college, from parents of a friend of hers, who were reputable tortoise breeders. She didn’t have kids, and doubted she ever would.

  But she had George.

The tortoise, roused by their activity, had emerged from his house and sat staring at them, blinking before ambling over toward where they stood.

“Oh, darn,” she said. “He wants his treat.”

John chuckled. “I’ll go get it.”

She leaned over the barricade and reached down, stroking the tortoise’s head. “Daddy’s going to get your romaine, buddy.”

They’d had a few smaller parties here at John’s, and even more times where they’d had people over for dinner in the months since they’d gotten engaged. Being with John felt more right than anything she’d ever known.

And that John loved George, doted on him, meant more to her than she suspected John would ever understand.

Tomorrow night they’d be hosting a Valentine’s Day party for their close-knit friends from the Suncoast Society munch group.

A kinky party, bound to be a bawdy good time, knowing their friends.

John returned with the romaine lettuce and hand-fed it to the tortoise. “I can’t believe you wouldn’t let me get the Cupid costume for him. It was adorable.”

“Hey, I let you put the Santa hat on him for our greeting cards. And I let you talk me into letting Max and Sean use him for some of their promo pics with Baxter.” She shook her head. “A tortoise Dom. Who’d a thunk it?”

“Who’d have thought a submissive cat?”

“I don’t think putting Baxter in a gimp suit costume makes him any more submissive than it does you,” she said with a smirk.

“You never know.” He glanced up at Abbey with that sexy grin he had, the one which always melted her insides. “Maybe Baxter’s a switch.”

“Baxter’s a cat. They don’t switch. They’re always Doms. They’re cats. Dogs have family, cats have staff, as the saying goes.”

“Isn’t there also a saying about how cats were once worshipped as gods and have never let us forget it?”

“Exactly.” Abbey loved watching John feed George. Maybe it was stupid, but she didn’t care. To her, it was another way of John honestly showing her how he felt. He wasn’t a man of idle talk. He was a man of his word.

  A man of genuine actions.

Once the tortoise had finished most of the romaine, John dropped what was left of the lettuce into George’s water bowl for him before he straightened and turned, surveying the lanai. While it hadn’t needed it, he’d hosed off the deck that morning, cleaned off the chairs, upped the chlorine in the hot tub and pool just a little, and made sure the house was tidy.

Which, of course, it was. He was a better housekeeper than she was, and she considered herself a pretty good one.

Pulling her into his arms, he kissed her. “Going to be a fun night tomorrow,” he said, his playful smile and hazel gaze melting her heart. He had a greenish cast to his eyes, always more pronounced in the heat of passion…especially when he had a fist in her hair and was smiling down at her while he fucked her mouth.

Their friends, even Tilly, had given up trying to figure out their switchy dynamic. They could flip roles practically in mid-sentence. They considered themselves collared to each other.

“So any idea what you think you’ll be feeling like?” she asked. “Will it be Sir or Ma’am tomorrow night?”

  His smile widened. “Yes.”

  * * * *

This was their first Valentine’s Day together. What Abbey didn’t know, and John had been very careful to conceal from her, was that he’d picked up an engagement ring for her just after Thanksgiving. His original plan had been to give it to her at Christmas. Then Abbey’s mom had gotten sick and had to spend a week in the hospital with pneumonia. Abbey had been so stressed out dealing with her and her equally stress-inducing and drama-prone father and siblings that John hadn’t wanted to add one more stressor to her already overloaded plate.

Technically, John never had actually dropped down onto one knee and proposed to her. Even though they were already actively planning their wedding, which would take place on the one-year anniversary of their mutual collaring. Their honeymoon trip was already booked, too.

Normally, Abbey wore the amethyst necklace he’d given her at their collaring ceremony, and he wore the silver bracelet she’d given him, as their day collars. To them, those pieces of jewelry were every bit as real and important as any engagement or wedding ring. In their minds, they already were a life-long couple with no intentions of going anywhere.

Still, he wanted to do things right. Even though he already knew the answer and knew the date, he wanted an engagement ring on Abbey’s finger. He knew he could do it tonight, but they’d agreed that tomorrow would be their card and gift-exchanging day. He didn’t want to catch her unaware any more than he already was.

Besides, it’d be fun doing it in front of their friends, sharing it with them, the people they considered family.

He was fully cognizant that he’d be setting a pretty damn high bar for himself for future Valentine’s Days, but he also knew Abbey was a realist who wouldn’t hold it against him or expect fancy jewelry every year.

In his mind, he had a two-pronged approach planned. Which prong he ended up following through with depended on which mode he was in tomorrow night. He might be Sir, she might
be Ma’am. Either way, he’d already scripted and mentally rehearsed it so he’d be ready when the opportunity presented itself.

He’d also enlisted Tilly’s help, swearing her to secrecy and making sure she’d be able to run interference for him and get him the ring in case he was…tied up.

  Literally.

While she was Abbey’s best friend, this was one secret he knew Tilly would keep for him. She’d squealed with delight then nearly knocked him off his feet with a tackle-hug when he’d stopped by their house a few days earlier and asked for her assistance.

Just a few months ago, never in his wildest dreams would John have imagined Tilly being one of his closest friends.

  Life is strange.

Abbey had been dropped into his life on one of the emotionally darkest days he’d survived, and now he couldn’t imagine life without her.

“I think we’re pretty much ready,” Abbey said.

He pulled her close. “They’re our friends, not the Queen,” he said. “Make sure you take the time to enjoy tomorrow night.” He loved the way she fit in his arms.

  “I will.”

Later that evening, once they were in bed and snuggling, John recognized the signs of the girl wanting Sir to come out and play with her. Tangling his fingers in her hair, he tipped her head back so he could nuzzle the base of her throat.

  “Who’s my good girl?”

Her body undulated against his. “Me, Sir,” her soft, tiny voice replied. Hell, it seemed she could sink like a rock into subspace for him. He didn’t always drop into subspace when they played with her as his Top, although he had noticed he dropped into subspace more consistently now when playing with her as opposed to people he’d played with in the past.
