     The Aquitaine Progression: A Novel

In Geneva, American lawyer Joel Converse meets a man he hasn’t seen in twenty years, a covert operative who dies violently at his feet, whispering words that hand Converse a staggering legacy of death: “The generals . . . they’re back . . . Aquitaine!” Suddenly Converse is running for his life, alone with the world’s most shattering secret. Pursued by anonymous executioners to the dark corners of Europe, he is forced to play a game of survival by blood rules he thought he’d long left behind. One by one, he traces each thread of a lethal progression to the heart of every major government, a network of coordinated global violence that no one believes possible—no one but Converse and the woman he once loved and lost, the only two people on earth who can wrest the world from the iron grasp of Aquitaine. Praise for Robert Ludlum and The Aquitaine Progression  * “You won’t be able to put it down.     The Last Days

      Joel C. Rosenberg
     The Last Days

The Barnes & Noble Review Don't feel bad, guys -- not even the super-buff are immune to love handles. A case in point is Bob Paris, a former Mr. Universe turned writer/motivational speaker. Paris was rock-solid throughout his 20s, but when he retired from competitive bodybuilding at age 31, things began to change: "I was fortunate enough to have a great metabolism, so I didn't get visibly overweight, but my muscle mass dwindled under my shirt -- where I once had champion abdominals -- pockets of fat were slowly sneaking up on me." Imagine the horror! And that was only the beginning. As he approached age 40, Paris's metabolism slowed down, his cholesterol started to rise, his joints ached, and his self-image took a nose dive. What's a former hard-body to do? Transform himself in 12 weeks, of course. Prime tells you how he did it and how you can, too. Granted, you may be starting from a slightly different place than a former Mr. Universe, but Paris takes this into account in laying out his plan for men over 40 to get fit, look good, and feel great. The book is broken down into five parts: Stop the Clock, Motivated Mind, Fit Body, Sound Nutrition, and Great Looks. You'll likely find some parts far more useful than others. Paris is at his best writing about and illustrating specific types of exercises (as in the Fit Body section), especially when he reveals why a calm presence and perfect technique are essential for achieving the desired results: He has no time for men with big egos who throw weights around in the gym or bounce the bench-press bar off their chests. The material on Great Looks is wisely presented last, since his talk of skin care products, plastic surgery, and hair loss seems uninspired and out of place by comparison. Still, whether or not facials and fake tanning lotions are for you, Paris clearly knows what keeps him mentally and physically sharp post-40, and in Prime he shares his formula for success in a way that any man on the verge of a midlife crisis can follow.      The Man Who Risked His Partner

Stephen R. Donaldson is one of America's acclaimed storytellers. But in the 1980s, he published three novels about private investigators Mick Axbrewder and Ginny Fistoulari, as paperback originals under the pseudonym "Reed Stephens." In 2001, Tor published a fourth novel about these characters, The Man Who Fought Alone, this time in hardcover under Donaldson's own name. Now Donaldson has returned to the first three novels in the sequence, rewriting and expanding them. The Man Who Killed His Brother was the first, and this is the second of the three. Mick "Brew" Axbrewder is a P.I. who's seen better days. Deeply into alcoholism, some time back, he accidentally shot and killed a cop. Worse, the cop turned out to be his brother. Even worse, in a case not long after that, his partner Ginny Fistoulari blew off her own left hand, protecting him and others. Now Mick works mostly as hired muscle for Ginny. They don't talk much. But their latest client's story doesn't add up. They're going to have to start working better together. And Brew's going to have to face some of his own worst fears.

    Trophy Hunt

      C. J. Box
     Trophy Hunt

It's an idyllic late-summer day in Saddlestring, Wyoming, and game warden Joe Pickett is fly-fishing with his two daughters when he stumbles upon the mutilated body of a moose. Whatever - or whoever - attacked the animal was ruthless: half the animal's face has been sliced away, the skin peeled back from the flesh. Shaken by the sight, Joe starts to investigate what he hopes in an isolated incident." "Days later, after the discovery of a small herd of mutilated cattle, Joe realizes this something much more terrifying than he could have imagined. Local authorities are quick to label the attacks the work of a grizzly bear, but Joe knows otherwise. The cuts on the moose and the cattle were too clean, too precise, to have been made by jagged teeth. Are the animals only practice for a killer about to move on to another, more challenging prey?" Soon afterward, Joe's worst fears are confirmed. The bodies of two men are found within hours of each other, in separate locations, their wounds eerily similar to those found on the moose and cattle. There's a vicious killer, a modern-day Jack the Ripper, on the loose in Saddlestring - and it appears his rampage is just beginning.

    Colombiano

      Rusty Young
     Colombiano

In Colombia you have to pick a side. Or one will be picked for you . . . All Pedro Gutiérrez cares about is fishing, playing pool and his girlfriend Camila’s promise to sleep with him on his sixteenth birthday. But his life is ripped apart when Guerrilla soldiers callously execute his father in front of him, and he and his mother are banished from their farm. Swearing vengeance against the five men responsible, Pedro, with his best friend Palillo, joins an illegal Paramilitary group, where he is trained to fight, kill and crush any sign of weakness. But as he descends into a world of unspeakable violence, Pedro must decide how far he is willing to go. Can he stop himself before he becomes just as ruthless as those he is hunting? Or will his dark obsession cost him all he loves? Colombiano is an epic tale of rural villages held to ransom, of jungle drug labs, cocaine supermarkets, witch doctors and buried millions, of innocent teenage love, barbaric torture and meticulously planned revenge. Superbly told and by turns gripping, poignant and darkly comic, Colombiano is the remarkable story of a boy whose moral descent becomes a metaphor for the corruption of an entire nation. Both blockbuster thriller and electrifying coming-of-age story, Rusty Young’s powerful novel is also a meditation on the redeeming power of love.
